Hi! My name is Joshua Schouten.
I am 24 years old, and I am in my third year at the Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary. I have been on the Roots team for 3 years and I joined the team because I think it is so important for Reformed youth to spend time with one another and to discuss the joys and the challenges that they face. My desire is that ROOTS would be able to assist young people to become more firmly rooted in Christ, and have their hearts and minds shaped by his Word.

Hi! I’m Susanna Holtvluwer and I live in Ancaster. I’m currently working at Cedar Springs Landscape Group as Operations Assistant. I love to go on a hike with a cup of coffee and a book or play the piano. I also love to learn more about my Creator and meet fellow earnest Christians.

Hi, I’m Kevin. I live in Beamsville and work doing Greenhouse maintenance and making Pre-fab patio covers. I have been going to ROOTS events since 2010 and have always enjoyed them! I am looking forward to planning and creating events for youth nowadays to enjoy. Some of my hobbies include airsoft, biking, and basically any type of mechanical work. I am a member of the Faithworks committee as well and love going on Service and Learning Trips.
Hi, I’m Laurenne Wattel! I currently live in a rural town near London. I am currently at Word & Deed Ministries as the Administrative Assistant and the Sponsorship Program Coordinator. Some things I enjoy doing in my free time are spending time with my dog, Brinley, and playing or watching soccer.
I have always enjoyed ROOTS events and can’t wait to be a part of planning them now! I am looking forward to meeting new people and praising God with youth all around Southwestern Ontario 🙂
Hello, I’m Shane Janssens. I have been going to ROOTS events since 2022. The best part about ROOTS is that young adults can come together and study the Word and discuss key issues. The conferences are also very nice to go to as you have the chance to meet other young adults. In my spare time, you can find me on my parent’s chicken farm or working at the Home Hardware in Watford.
It is my hope and prayer that we may grow closer to the Lord and look forward to the day when Christ our Saviour will come back.
Hey, I’m Hannah! I live in Wainfleet, ON, and attend Niagara South Canadian Reformed Church. Currently, I’m going to school at Covenant Canadian Reformed Teachers College to get my diploma of teaching. If I’m not doing homework, you can probably fine me reading, or playing piano.
I’ve been attending Roots events for years now, and have always enjoyed the fellowship of young people between the churches of southern Ontario. It’s always amazing to see a church full of youth gathered together to learn more about God and what it means to live out a Godly life. I’m very excited to work with the rest of the Roots team to continue bringing these events to life!
I am Simon Heemskerk, one of the members on the ROOTS team and am excited to be organizing events for you. Currently I am going to the University of Waterloo for Geography and Aviation and also training to be a pilot in Waterloo. My studies are pretty interesting but taking a break from them to read a book or be outdoors is great.

Hey, I’m Tracy! I’m 19 and live just outside of GrandValley. I am a professed member of the GrandValley Canadian Reformed Church. Right now, I am in the Educational Support Program at Conestoga and set to graduate this spring, Lord willing. In my free time, you’ll usually find me diving into a good manga, playing piano, ukulele, sketching, or singing. ROOTS events have always been something I look forward to so I’m thrilled to be part of the team! I can’t wait to find new and exciting ways to encourage each other in Christ and grow in faith together. Meeting new people is one of my favorite things, so I look forward to seeing you all at ROOTS events!
